I want to make an FTP server.

Setting up an FTP server is a great way to be able to get access to your data at home, or send data home. If you have a specific reason for needing to set up FTP, then go ahead and set it up, but I would recommend to use SFTP instead, which is secure FTP. You can use the tutorials listed below to set up FTP on your computer if you still want to, but consider yourself warned. If you want to set up SFTP, go to the Remote Access link on the left.

The reason I recommend SFTP instead, is that FTP has some downsides to it, and I think they are big ones. First, FTP is insecure. What I mean by this is that all of your data that you transfer either to or from your computer is sent unencrypted, including your passwords. Second, the setup is not difficult, but it is more involved than enabling SSH, which would allow SFTP. Third, you have to open another port in your firewall, which could be another possible breach in security. If you still want to set up FTP, see the links below.

Use these links for what you will need.
